Ambient Packs

What are savENRG® Ambient Packs?

savENRG® Ambient Packs are manufactured using a water-based phase change material (PCM). This material solidifies as the surrounding temperature drops from 25°C to 15°C (77°F to 59°F) releasing heat and then melts as the temperature rises from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F) absorbing heat.

Why are savENRG® Ambient Packs better than standard gel packs?

savENRG® Ambient Packs work best in the range of 25°C to 15°C (77°F to 59°F) while gel packs work best in the range of -5°C to 5°C (23°F to 41°F).

When a gel pack is used to keep a product from overheating within a room temperature range of 25°C to 15°C (77°F to 59°F), its capacity to absorb heat from the ambient temperature is low – 4.186 J/gC (1g of gel warms up by 1°C while it absorbs 4.186 Joules of heat).

When a savENRG® Ambient Pack is used for the same application within a temperature range of 25°C to 15°C (77°F to 59°F), its capacity to absorb heat from the ambient conditions is very high – 170.000 J/gC (1g of savENRG® Ambient PCM absorbs 170 Joules of heat without change in temperature). Thus, a smaller quantity of savENRG® Ambient PCM can safely keep a product from overheating as compared to the quantity that will be needed for a gel pack.

When to use savENRG® Ambient Packs:

When shipping diagnostic blood samples, the specimens need to be maintained in a controlled room temperature (CRT) range of 25°C to 15°C (77°F to 59°F) during transit from the point of collection to a diagnostic laboratory. These specimens are shipped overnight using a courier service and have a high likelihood of exposure to extreme ambient temperatures. The size of the package and its weight directly impact the cost of transit. Use of savENRG® Ambient Pack helps reduce the package size and weight, maintaining a low shipping cost while ensuring that the blood specimens do not overheat during transit.

Features of savENRG® Ambient Packs:

  • Environmentally safe non-toxic water-based PCM
  • An energy saving, sustainable alternative to gel packs for controlled room temperature applications
  • Tested for consistent stability over multiple uses for thousands of cycles
